When we telephoned an old favourite Pierluigi and got a message that they were closed, we also got this recommendation. Perhaps the two have joint ownership or management. Though we have stayed often in via del Pellgrino, we had never noticed this place, and at first we were reluctant to go in because it looked so much like a bar rather than a restaurant. We were wrong.
The menu is extensive. While you peruse it, we recommend a bottle of the restaurant’s Frascati – though the Grecco di Tufo also pleased us.
Among the antipasti, the Insalata Catalana with crab, lobster, and rughetta was the best we’ve ever had – better than the Pierluigi original!
The fish is all fresh and consequently of limited availability. The Calamari alla griglia con rughetta was tender, succulent and flavourful. The Trancia di salmone served with a salad was perfect, warm but not dry.
There is a good selection of dolci, among which the Torta della Nonna (as always, indescribable) was exquisite. Also good sgroppino.
This a valuable addition to the recommended restaurants in the vicinity of the Campo dei Fiori. Good value too, at approximately 35 euros per person, including a generous wine supply.
