Sicily as you dreamt it, without the washing lines, but with an extra portion of shouting and an indecent number of dashing young Italians, looking gorgeous and accidentally serving people. The food is equally sensational…
If you can manage to find a seat, or fancy chatting up the boss to get a table, then you will appreciate the large choice of pasta and Italian specialties. My hot selection: Linguini vongole (with clams), penne alla arrabiatta, carpaccio topped with slices of parmiggiano and sun dried tomatoes, panacotta with caramel (an Italian white cream made with mascarpone, quite close to crème brûlée, but without eggs), tiramisu, with house wine at around £8 per bottle. Try also the lemon liquor, a very tasty Italian drink.
I spent a Saturday evening there running on Spanish hours (meaning that we arrived at 10.30pm to have dinner) with a group of nine. We stayed until the restaurant closed at 1.30 am. The atmosphere was very lively right to the end, and particularly after midnight, when the music became louder and customers started dancing to rock’n’roll and Italian classics. A great place; bound to inspire you to hop on a flight to Sicily at once.
