Adjacent to Portugese Kings Road favourite Tugga sits their stylish cocktail bar designed by architect Miguel Cancio Martins, who also designed the likes of Buddha Bar, Man Ray and the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Launched in September 2006, this little hideaway is growing in popularity and is already en route to becoming a members-only bar.

Arrive at Nova thirsty, because their exciting concoctions range in potency and flavours – there is a lot to get through! Is it bubbles you’re after? Champagne and fruity champagne cocktails will get you there nicely. Is vino more your fancy? Plenty of divine worldly reds and whites are on offer. There is an abundance of long and short cocktails too, using the finest premium spirits and fresh juices.

After rigorous experimentation (hard work indeed), the specialty seems to lie in the Martini cocktails. The signature Nova Martini consists of Absolut Black Currant, crème de cassis, sugar, blueberries, milk and cream. I was grateful the berries were included to meet my daily antioxidant quota. And who needs pudding!

For something on the savoury front, there’s even a veggie Martini made with Sputnik Horseradish and Basil vodkas, celery, cucumber, tomato juice, carrot juice and basil. Five-a-day, anyone? All in all, frothy drinks will, on average, run you about £8.00 each.

To complement the libations, you can also order first-class cigarettes and cigars – oh and tapas! Choose from starters (£4 – £7) served up in the main restaurant such as the Portugese cheese selection, which includes Serra Curado, Ilha and Castelo. There is also bacalhau a bras, Portugese-style cod, potatoes egg and onions.

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are key nights for this swanky establishment, with talk of perhaps opening the venue up a few additional nights during the week. The music comes in the form of a DJ, who plays what is described as ‘funky house’ from around 10pm onwards.

Visit chic Nova for a cheeky after-dinner cocktail, intimate night out or try booking the space for a glamorous private party.
