What a catch Chapter One is for the area’s local residents. Situated in a beautiful building in Farnborough, near Bromley, Chapter One is the proud holder of a Michelin Star and has been voted AA Restaurant of the Year 2004.
With a wealth of other awards as well as four AA rosettes to its name, the restaurant presents a truly excellent culinary experience with head chef Andrew MacLeish ably supported by general manager Andrew Morgan and his staff.
As starters, we had a velout” of button mushrooms: a wonderful smooth and tasty soup; the marinated herrings, with potato salad, pancetta bacon and beetroot puree were excellent and – although an adventurous combination – worked extremely well.
For the main course we tried the roast saddle of lamb with haricots blanc and potato puree, the latter of which was superb. Although a rather simple dish, it nevertheless would have satisfied even the most cynical of minds.
However Chapter One truly excels in its desserts: the pannacotta with macerated apricots was light and superb, while the delice of chocolate was, well, delicious. All main courses are priced at £15.50, while starters are £5.95 and desserts £5.50.
The wine list is pricier – there isn’t much under £20 a bottle – but interesting and wide-ranging in appeal.
Chapter One price their menus at very reasonable levels, and a meal there will remind you of the reason why you go to restaurants at all.
